Hoodoos are made of sandstone. they are caused by erosion. Erosion is either water, wind, or frosting then thawing. Water or wind will slowly brush away the sand particles. Frosting then thawing fills cracks with ice then thaws the ice and leaves a bigger crack.

pd.9 group 3 said...

Erosion causes hoodoos to form by water and wind. There would be cracks and the water would freeze and form new layers and cracks. The wind would dust off particles that have not stuck, to form a hoodoo.

group6 p.9 said...

The forces at work are erosion and weather. Its made from the weather
. The snow goes in the cracks and when its in the cracks it freezes at night and holds it together.

period 1 group 3 said...

weather pushes against the sand stone. soon it wears away. sand particles pile up and erosion turns it into a hard rock or a soft rock. when this it is called an awesome formation called hoodoos. then they get distroyed and the whole process starts again.

Period 1/Group 1 said...

Erosion is working to make hoodoos a very exotic (amazing) and semi-rare workings to be very rare. Some say that hoodoos can support an entire tribe inside the holes in the hoodoos.

hoodoos are really big rock formations made of sand

pd.2 group 6 said...

The Soft stone is so soft that when you touch it, part of it will come off. When it erodes the fore pushes it against it and it will make it break apart.

PERIOD 2 GROUP 4 $$$$$$ said...

The forces that create Hoodoo's are weathering, erosion, and the freeze/thaw cycle. It forms in to hard rock. Little sand pieces clump together then they get eroded and turn in to hoodoos.

group2 period 2 said...

Hoodoos are going to be destroyed by the nature that made them. Also the soft part of a hoodoo is at the bottom and the hard part of a hoodoo is at the top.Hoodoos have been around for hundreds of years and will be gone hundreds of years later.

Group 1 pd 2 said...

The forces that create Hoodoos are the same ones that destroy it. Its caused by erosion a long long long long long long long long time ago when these rocks used to be a big mountain and after years of erosion it caused these mountains to shrink over time. This caused these tall shaped mountains to appear tall and skinny. Its made out of soft stone iron. Its a rock that has absorbed water and created like a cement type rock that stands tall and is a marvel to be hold because in several thousand years it will be destroyed by the same thing that created it.....Erosion

group 3 pd.2 said...

The forces that are at work are particles of sand being blown by the wind against the hoodoo. another thing that erodes hoodoos is freeze and then unfreeze cycles which crack the rock

group 5 p2 said...

Lots of force works together to make hoodoos like wind, air, water, and frost/thaw to make up hoodoos.

Period 4 Group 2 said...

Erosion and weathering cause hoodoos to form. The sand and rocks blow on the Hoodoos to form the crazy images:)

period 3 group 4 said...

Sand piles up and in a long period of time the pile will slowly harden and turn to stone. then water, ice, and wind will slowly weather away the stone and form a Hoodoo.

Erosion forms hoodoos by wearing away all the soft sandstone, leaving only the capstone and harder rock.

group 4 pd_8 said...

hoodoos are formed when sand stone builds up and is weathered by running water , or erosion occurs.

group5 pd8 said...

Some forces such as erosion and weathering
weaken the sandstone causing hoodoos to form

Period 8 Group 2 said...

Wind;water;frost/thaw all create the Hoodoos.
When parts of the Hoodoos are hit by sand it breaks up particles on the Hoodoos.
Water breaks down a lot of particles of the Hoodoo.
A Hoodoo has a crack in the rock and water gets in and freezes over night.

Group1 Peirod8 kaitlyn and camryn said...

The force that creates hoodoos is erosion and weathering. For example when big sand particles are cemented together it holds the rocks together. When it snows and the water goes down a crack it than freezes and expands so that the crack gets bigger and bigger. It turns hard or soft rocks in to hoodoos.

group 6 pd 8 said...

weather creates hoodoos because rain washes away sand particles then when it gets cold the water freezes in the cracks of the rock making it expand

group 5 pd.9 said...

The forces that creates hoodoos are erosion and weathering. Then sand particles pile up and the it turns into hard rock or soft rock and forms hoodoos.

Period 9 Group 2 said...

Erosion forces sand and sedimentary rock to go away from the Hoodoo. And also weathering which would be water, wind, and frost/snow that would cause the sand and rocks to go away.

Group 3 P.d9:)hahaha said...

The sand is blowing the sandstone but since some of it is soft it gets blown away to create hoodoos.

Group 6 P.D. 9 said...

Erosion and weathering both are forces that create Hoodoos. For example they create them by running water and wind it smoothes it out and grinds it away. The freezing water in between the cracks causes the crack to expand until it can not expand any more and explodes.

group 1 p.d 9 said...

the forces are erosion, that occur over time, and rain falls and make the sandstone disappear and makes the form of the rock.

Group 4 pd. 9 said...

Hoodoos are created by erosion and erosion is caused by rain, wind and freeze-thaw cycles. When erosion occurs it begins to chip away the rock and when rain or snow gets in the crack of the rock the crack expands which causes the shape of the rock to change.

NIck,Daniel,Mason said...

Some forces that help make hoodoos are water,freeze/thaw cycles, sandstone, and air. For example, some hoodoos in Milk River Valley have holes in them from when sandstones were blown into them. Also, when water comes in contact with hoodoos like in Bryce National Park,it freezes and breaks off pieces of the hoodoo.

Tara, Emily, Ally:)) said...

Sand storms, wind, rain, and freeze thaw cycles are the forces that create and destroy hoodoos. Sand storms and wind chip away pieces of the hoodoos causing them to change shape. Rain causes hoodoos to slowly erode and wash away the particles of rock. Freeze thaw cycles cause water to get into the cracks of hoodoos. Over night they freeze and cause the cracks to increase in size.

Some of the forces used to create hoodoos are rain/water, strong sand winds, and freeze/thaw cycles. Rain washes the soft layers of the hoodoo off and continue to erode it off. Strong sand winds hit the hoodoo and knock off particles and contnues to weather and erode. And water freezes into tiny cracks in the hoodoo and splits it apart and that is how it continues to weather.

Tristen H, Lorenzo T, Mason K said...

Hoodoos can be caused by several things such as erosion and weathering, and freeze thaw cycles. Erosion and weathering is when things like water, rain, and wind erode away at the hoodoo. For example, when the wind blows, it brushes off some of the sand particles and creates different shapes on the hoodoos. But, some of the hoodoo is stronger than others so it doesn't erode away as quick. When a freeze thaw occurs, it also erodes away at the hoodoos. For example, it may rain and then it gets cold. The rain seeps into the cracks and then freezes because of the lack of warm weather. This causes the cracks to expand which is an example of erosion.

Quinn, Emma said...

A hoodoo is created when sand stones pile up on the ancient beaches. It's made of sand stone particles. There are many forms of erosion. One is water erosion. That is when water gets in the cracks of a hoodoo and freezes then expands the crack. Also, wind with sand in it chips away rock very slowly. When it rains it washes sand particles away.
