Chemistry and Rocks

We recently went from studying geology (rocks) to the study of chemistry (the states of matter.) The states of matter that we learned about are solids, liquids, and gasses. How do you think the two topics are related to each other? Post your response as a group and don't forget to use examples from our experiments and simulations.

rocks and the states of matter are related because a rock is a solid. And water is a liquid just like magma. Lava releases gases when it comes out of the volcano.

Chemistry and rocks compare because they both have 3 major topics. EX. chemistry majors solid, liquid, and gas.Rock majors are igneous rock, sedimentary rock, metamorphic rock.

Chemistry and geology both deal with the 3 states of matter(solid, liquid, gas)
Ex.A rock has a fossil on it (geology),and it is a solid (chemistry).

Rocks and the states of matter are related because rocks are solids and solid is a state of matter and it is a solid because the molicules are very close together

They are related to each other by they have molecules that move all over the place. A solids molecules stay pack together and they move but not while. A liquid molecules they are pack together but are loose together. Gasses molecules are spread out instead of them being together . This is how they are related.

we think that they are related because a rock is a solid and magma is a liquid

They are related because rocks are solids. Also they can be melted into liquids. Those liquids evaporated into gases.

the two topics are related by solids and they both move at the same rate.

Rocks are related to the states of matter because rocks are solids. Igneous rocks are made from lava which is a liquid. Water can weather a rock as a liquid or a solid to turn it into sediment which turns into a sedimentary rock.

Solids can be rocks. when lava is not cooled it is a liquid. steam from volcanoes is a gas when it erupts.

The two subjects are related to each other because each have to do with being in one form then changing to another. EX. Ice melts into water and when water heats it turns into steam. Weathering a sedimentary rock and adding heat and pressure will turn it into a metamorphic rock. And heating plus cooling will turn a metamorphic rock into an igneous rock.

Rocks are solids. Lava can be a liquid or gas. The water cycle consists of liquids, then gases, then solids. The liquid part is the water. Then when the water evaporates the kenitec energy rises as the temperature rises and it becomes a gas. Then as the evaporated water forms a cloud it will rain the water back down to the ground. Then if the water cools it will becomeice and that is a solid.

gas and liquid relate to each other because gas transform into liquid.

rocks=solids
rocks+melting=magma
magma=liquid
magma+cooling=rocks
rocks=solids

gas and liquid relate to each other because gas transform into liquid.

pd.1 group.3 said...

a rock is a solid.
and if u melt it its a liquid.
it melts by magma and it ca turn into a gas.;)

Rocks and the States of Matter are related because a rock is a solid. The liquid that is like magma is water. The 3 most important topics are liquid, solid, and gas.

Group 5 pd 1 said...

Solid and liquids are the same in some ways because they both have a definite volume. But they are different because solids don't take the shape of its container no matter what sape and liquids do take the shape of their container.

group6pd.9 said...

i think the two topics are related to each other because like in the states of matter you have solid, liquid, and gas and rocks and rocks are solid

period 9 gp 4 said...

just like rocks chemistry has a cycle.
rocks go from sedimentary, metamorphic to igneous. Chemistry goes from types of matter. Goes from solid,to liquid, and liquid to gas

group2period9 said...

rocks and states of matter are related because they are not spread out far far apart but far enough to make to a state of matter [solid, liquid, gas]

group3 pd9said said said...

Rocks and the states of matter are related because the rock is a solid and magma is a liquid.

p9 group1 said...

HI!Rocks are solids. They're both a cycle. Magma is a liquid rock and when it hardens it turns into a solid which is an igneous rock. When magma comes out of a volcano and turns into lava the gases from the volcano come out with it.

group 5 p2 said...

Rocks are a solid, liquid, or a gas before becoming a rock.Everything would have matter in it because, matter takes up space. For example, rocks, humans, and animals take up space.

Period 2 Group 1 said...

Chemistry is related to geology because the states of matter can change rocks. They also have all three matters liquid, gas, and solids.

Period2GROUP2 said...

The rocks are acting like a solid because when it is in a container it doesn't fill the whole container like liquid and gas does. Magma is sorta a liquid but it is like chunky peanut butter. Also in igneous rocks there can be gas bubbles from gas.

chouby said...

theses are the same because they are in the same combination as energy that can be describe as a solid, liquid,or gas that forms kinetic energy

period.2 group 3 said...

rocks are a state of matter and it is a solid and water is a liquid.

group3 period 4 said...

th two topics are the same because the rocks that we leared about are like a solid and lave is the liquid and the heat from the lava is the gas.

Period 4 roup 4 said...

They are related because rocks are a solid and lava/magma are liquids and smoke from the volcano are a type of gas.

Period 4 Group 2:) said...

Chemistry is related to the states of matter because they both have three topics. Chemistry has three topics, they are solid, liquid and gas. Rocks also have three topics igneous, sedimentry, and metamorphic.

Period 4 Group 5 said...

Rocks and Chemistry are related because an example of a solid is a rock, an example of liquid is magma, and an example of gas is lava. When lava comes out of the volcano it relaeses gases.

period 4 group 6 said...

A geologist studies and searches for rocks with fossils.a chemistry person studies rocks to see how much room a rock has.like solid ,liquid, and gases.because some rocks erupt from volcanos and become a name even rocks come from underground and outer space.

group1pd4 said...

The two topics are related because sand is like liquid because it has no shape and it takes the shape of the container it is in.
a rock is a solid because it has the same shape. when a volcano releases gases in the air is is the same as when water becomes a gas
