Oyster Management Plan

The number of Oysters in the Chesapeake Bay is dangerously low compared to historic standards. At one time the Bay was practically filled with oysters, some the size of footballs! Now, diseases such as MSX and Dermo are killing oysters. The oyster’s ability to filter the water is reduced, making for a more polluted bay. Also, fewer oysters mean that Oystermen are having trouble keeping up with the demand placed on them by consumers.
Based on your research about oyster breeding programs, what do you think is the best plan for increasing the population of oysters in Chesapeake bay?

Our action plan is to find a cure, and help the Oysters and help the Bay

We choose number five for 11 million dollars because........ It will get rid of the diseases.finding a cure for Dermo and
MSX.

Our action plan is to find a cure for MSX and to keep doing research about it to cure it better.

We are doing Reducing Ecosystem Stress because we don't

we picked plan 4 because it was the best plan to help increase the oyster population. So we planed to take oysters to the hatcheries where they would take oysters in and raise them without the diseases so that they can increase the oysters population because then those oysters will not die faster from the disease.
We also chose number 1 beasuce it was also was a good choose.

we chose the number 3 because it will help the bay and many different ecosystems!we also chose number 4 because it will help with the oysters immunity to the oyster
diseases.

We are using the plan where they are going to find a cure for MSX and dermo and help the oysters

Our action plan is to raise disease free Oysters in hatcheries because, their would be more disease free Oysters. Also we would find a cure for Dermo and MSX because, when their are Oysters with less disease people will get more money. And last we would Breed for resistance because,it would make a positive effect in the bay!

We are going to raise disease - free hatcheries, breed for resistance, and find a cure for the Dermo and MSX.

pr4 group 5 said...

we picked breeding and resistance 9 million ,r

we chose numbers 5,4 and 1. number 5 is called finding a cure for the dermo and MSX disease. Number 4 is raise disease free oysters in hatcheries. Number 1 is called plant and move. with plant and move you raise the oysters until they are big enough and then release to sell and eat. The total cost is 29 million dollars.

pd.8 group 2 said...

Our plan is to find a cure for dermo and MSX, plant and move the young oysters and put them in higher salinity waters and breed oysters for resistance.

pd.8 group 2 said...

We chose these because if one plan didn`t work we would have a backup plan.

The first step in our oyster management plan would be to reduce ecosystem stress by increasing its plant growth and decay. secondly, we would plant and move the young oysters to higher salinity areas. The third step would be harvesting regulations for at least five years. During this time, we start raising disease free oysters in hatcheries. After the five years, re-establish them back into the Bay. We would spend 28 million dollars on our research plan.

Our group chose 2# Raise Disease Free Oysters in Hatcheries which costed 3 million dollars. This plan is to raise oysters that will be disease free.

p8 group 1 said...

we think plan # 1 plant and move and finding a cure for dermo and MXS. MXS kills oysters thats why plan 5 and 1

pd8 group6 said...

We think that the oyster management plans 1,2,and 3 are good plans to help save oysters. For number 1, they move to get healthy and then move back to keep from getting disease. Number 2 heals the disease MSX but does nothing to Dermo. Number 3 is about making the oyster's immune system stronger. We think these plans will help oysters the most.

pd9 group 1 said...

We should raise disease free Oyster in Hatcheries by collecting oysters and putting them in artifical reefs.

pd9 group2 said...

we chose raise disease free oysters in hatcheries because it's making sure oysters disease are free.

pd.9 group 6 said...

Our action plan is the plant and move plan, the raise disease free oysters in hatcheries plan, and the finding a cure for the Dermo AND the MSX because those plans help the oysters and the bay.

PD9 group 4 said...

We chose number 2 which is breeding for resistance(9 million dollars),number 4 which is to raise disease free oysters($15 million) and #5 which is finding a cure for dermo and MSX ($11 million)and all of this equals exactly $35 million.

pd 9 group (5) said...

Our plan is to find a cure, raise disease free oysters, and breed resistance oysters. If we find a cure there will be no problems. If we raise resistance oysters that will be better. Raise disease free oysters they wont spread. That is all 35 million.

period 9 group 3 said...

Number 5 because will increase the chance of oysters getting a disease called dermo and msx 11 million.

pd 1 group 4 said...

breeding for resistance cost 9 million dollars because it is the most important.

pd3 group3 said...

breeding for resistance and finding a cure

pd group6 said...

We chose 4 because it's going to prevent oyster decreasing.

pd.1 group1 said...

WE CHOSE THE RAISE DISEASE FREE OYSTERS IN HATCHERY WHICH COSTS 15 MILLION DOLLARS AND PLANT AND MOVE WHICH COSTS 3 MILLION DOLLARS AND BREEDING FOR RESISTANCE WHICH COSTS 9 MILLION DOLLARS AND REDUCING STRESS COSTS 7 MILLION DOLLARS

Pd 1 group2 said...

Our action plan is to raise disease resistant oysters then when there is enough we will release them into the ocean. Then we would tell people not to catch them.

pd1 group3 said...

The main ways to help the oysters population, breeding for resistance, and stop harvesting.

pd said...

we think that if they find a cure for msx that the populations will increase

pd 1 group 4 said...

Finding A Cure For Demo and MSX is the second most important. It costs 11 million dollars.

PD.2 GROUP 3 said...

We chose the raise disease free oysters in hatcheries. The reason we chose this is because its supose to restore helth to the Chesepeke bay. [Cost $15 million]

my action plan is to find the best way to find a cure for the oysters.
I chose number 4 because i thought that it was a good idea what they do is they take in oysters and then they will raise the oysters in hacheries after that they will set the oysters free away from other oysters that have the MSX diseas so that they can raise the oyster population and start rehabbitation of the presious oysters in the bay that is what i choose the amazing thing is that it might actulay work even know that it will have its ups and its downs as long as it saves the oysters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
