Waves In Your Life
The more you study waves the more you come to realize that they seem to be everywhere around us. From the moment you wake up in the morning to the time you put your head down to sleep, there are waves in your life. What are some ways waves are in your own life? Describe at least two. I look forward to reading your posts!

NorthBay Questions
The trip is coming up in just a few, short weeks. It's going to be a great time but there is a lot to do to prepare for it. You can check my website for some extra information. What kind of questions do you have about the trip? Ask your questions here and check back later for an answer!

Community Issue
We have been learning about the three kinds of environmental issues in Science class: population, resource use, and pollution. What is an issue that people in your community care about? Be Specific. Ask someone in your family or a neighbor. What is a possible solution to the problem? Post your answer this week!

Guess the Legos
We are estimating populations in Science class. One good test is to see if you can guess how many objects are in a container. In my classroom there are Legos in a 1,000 mL beaker. How many do you think are in the beaker? Post your answer and you may be the lucky kid that wins the prize - getting to sit in Mr. Honer's desk chair for a class period!

Metric Measurement
Measuring is an important part of our lives. Most of the things that we buy are measured in some way or form. You may go to the hardware store and buy a certain length of rope, or go to the gas station and buy a certain volume of gas. In each case, something had to be measured. For most of the world, things are measured using the Metric System. The length of rope might be in meters and the gasoline would be in liters. The United States is one of the few countries that uses a different system (yards instead of meters and gallons instead of liters.) This leads to some tricky converting from one system to the other whenever different countries are working together. It often results in costly mistakes. For example, one gallon is not equal to one liter. Can you imagine the type of problems that can lead to?
Do you think that the United States should switch over to the metric system? Why or why not? Post your opinion today.

Where were you?
A 5.8 earthquake? On the East Coast? WOW! The earthquake of August 23, 2011 had its epicenter in central Virginia. Though they do happen from time to time, earthquakes are rare on the East Coast of the United States. The last sizable earthquake that occurred around here was almost 70 years ago. It was a result of built up pressure from colliding tectonic plates being released.
This was my first earthquake and I have to say that it was a thrilling experience. I was in the art room at Colonel Richardson Middle School with Mr. Plinke when we heard the rumbling and saw the lights swinging back and forth. We quickly made our way outside. At first I thought a large truck had been driving by outside! Shortly after that my wife called me from where she was in Chestertown (45 miles away) to see if I felt it too!
Where were you and what were you doing when the Great East Coast Earthquake of 2011 struck? Share your story!
